Because we are on the second floor of the school, it tends to get very hot in our classroom. Please be reminded of this when packing lunches in the morning :)

With the hot and humid weather, please send your child(ren) to school with appropriate clothing, and a water bottle that they can refill throughout the day. Because we are on the second floor of the school, it tends to get very hot in our classroom. Please be reminded of this when packing lunches in the morning :)

Use the Persuasion Map (below) to help you with your persuasive paragraph about whether or not children under 13 years old should be allowed to have Facebook. This will help you organize your thoughts before you start writing, but it is not mandatory to do. Only do this if you feel that it will help you :)

Go through this power point - this is what we will be learning throughout this unit :)
Any unfinished work from class needs to be done by the end of the week (due Friday). We have been working on these tasks for a few periods, and many students have finished and it is time for us to move on :) I have posted photos of our anchor chart for Point Of View, and the question for the Health Advertisement. Health advertisementfable point of viewYour task was to re-tell any fable of your choice (there are 2 in your language arts duotangs) in the 1st person. This means that you are retelling the story from the perspective of one of the characters in the story. Don't forget to include all important information from the story, and watch your capitals and punctuation. Math test is at the end of this week, and we will be completing a review in class. Please use this homework as a review for our 3D Geometry test.
EQAO Reading Passage Homework - Read the success criteria on the "Classroom Blog" section of our website. Use the success criteria to help you answer the questions about the story. Remember to read the questions carefully, and answer all parts of the question. For example: Use a highlighter or different coloured pencil crayons to underline the different parts of the question. THEN underline the parts of your answer that match that part of the question. This way, you know you have answered the entire question.
If you cannot download the files, I have also uploaded them in a different format. If any of you have trouble opening them, let me know and I can try printing some from home! On Tuesday, we will be starting a research project for science. The project will be posted on our website tomorrow (Tuesday), including the rubric.
Please try to complete the language homework as best as you can on your own. That includes reading the passage and the questions. This is an EQAO practice from a previous test. Remember to use pencil crayons or highlighters to underline the different parts of the question. Then, do the same with your answer to make sure that you answered it fully.
As a review of what we are doing in Language right now, take a look at our characteristics of fables, and dialogue success criteria.
We have been reading fables in class, paying special attention to the moral of the story, and the use of quotation marks. Please review for the upcoming week. Characteristics of Fables

Reminder: Math test Thursday IXL or PRODIGY for extra math :) Check classroom blog for Science Project Update
Read a book this week, and fill out the graphic organizer below. If you don't have a printer - don't worry! Complete it on a piece of lined paper. Don't forget your name!
We have been learning about strong and stable structures. We will have a quiz on what we have learned so far on Tuesday.
These are things you need to know and study: - Structure: can support an object or load. Can be made by humans, animals, or nature. - Stable: structure will be strong and steady. The structure will not fall. - Be able to list different structures that are man-made, animal made, and nature-made. - What is the strongest shape? - Materials animals use to make structures. - Materials humans use to make structures. - Comparing a man-made structure to a natural or animal-made structure (think about what we use to compare things...)
I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL March break! I can't wait to hear about all the fun things you did during your week with your families!! Parents: I am not posting any homework for March Break. If you would like you can still access Prodigy and Raz Kids! ALSO, the week we get back from March Break, I will be assessing student's oral presentation skills. Last week, I asked students to start thinking about choosing a *just right* book that they can read over March Break. I have posted different activities that the students can choose to complete. They are not meant to be time-consuming. They are to assist your child in his/her presentation when we return. This will be doing this at the end of the week when we get back. There is also a checklist that the students can think about. Go over this with your child, to ensure that they can tell you about different parts of their book. I'm excited to hear about all the great books you have read!
In addition to the posted homework, please continue to work on Prodigy and Raz Kids.
This helps with the understanding of math concepts, and reading comprehension! I also post weekly "assignments" on Prodigy that specifically relate back to things we are learning in class :) Have a great week everyone! Sorry everyone for the late post. Please print and complete this homework for Friday. This week, we have some language and comprehension questions, and some EQAO Math questions (number sense and measurement questions) to practice. Happy homeworking!
It seems like we have been reading Hugo for a very long time!! It is a large book, and we are getting so close to finishing.
Today, we read 2 chapters! The class was so excited to learn about what happens next, that we just HAD to continue reading. Tonight for homework (or by Monday if you really don't have time tonight) please write a one - two sentence summary of what happened in Part 2, Chapter 7. This will be added to our lapbook summary #4 that we started today. Remember, we already did the summary for Chapter 6 today. If you forgot what happened in this chapter, you can read this detailed summary. http://www.shmoop.com/hugo-cabret/part-2-chapter-7-summary.html The math work attached for this week's homework will help you review for your test on Friday. Remember to practice your division, and practice solving word problems at home. (HINT: On prodigy tonight, there will be plenty of word problems!!) Attached to some of the homework are answer pages. Please do not cheat! Check your work after you finish the page! :) Extra Practice: try doing some more fact families practice at home too! :) You can even make triangle flash cards and practice with an older sibling or one of your parents! Don't forget about the success criteria for problem solving and justifying your thinking!!
In class today, we summarized each chapter in part 2 of Hugo Cabret. Read over the summarized chapters with your parents at home. Write 1-2 sentences to summarize chapter 6. Bring them to school, and we will add it to our class summary!
Hugo Cabret What has happened so far, in these chapters? Part 2, Ch 1 – The Signature Isabelle and Hugo were surprised that the automaton signed Georges name on the drawing of the man in the moon. Part 2, Ch 2 – The Armoire Isabelle tried to reach a box on the top of the armoire but she fell, and the box broke on her foot and the papers went everywhere. Part 2, Ch 3 – The Plan Hugo stole a key from Georges’ pocket and he went to the toy booth. Part 2, Ch 4 – The Invention of Dreams Hugo went to the French movie academy where he saw Etienne. They looked through old books together, and Hugo saw a book about old movies and he saw Georges name. In the book, it said Georges was dead, but Hugo told Etienne that he was Isabelle’s godfather and is alive. Part 2, Ch 5 – Papa Georges Made Movies Hugo told Isabelle the real story about the automaton and he showed her the book about old movies. After, he told her that Etienne and Monsieur Tabard are going to visit Georges to see if he was really alive. Part 2 - Chapter 6 - Purpose

This morning, we read "The Night I Followed My Dog." We are learning how to determine the main idea, and use supporting details to support our answer.
Use a graphic organizer (like what we did in class) for your homework. This can be done on lined paper! We will be talking about it tomorrow (Wednesday)!! Here is a link to the story, if you want a refresher! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoUINMx5Sgk |
